For decades, Burton has chosen to take the path that has a lighter footprint, making a positive impact on its people, products and playground. Sustainability is deeply woven into the company’s purpose-driven business model. From carving out ways to reduce the carbon footprint of Burton HQ and product manufacturing, to purchasing environmentally preferred materials and finding solutions to keep products in use longer, Burton is effectively impacting its supply chain from raw materials to landfill. The company is targeting 20% carbon reduction across its hardgood products and 100% bluesign products across softgoods.

Burton is also committed to fair labour practices and safe working conditions, advocating for strong climate policy, and protecting the company’s unique culture by empowering women’s leadership, providing preferred employee benefits and encouraging staff to give back through volunteer time off and The Chill Foundation.

bluesign-approved

Part of becoming better at sustainability is having more and more products which feature bluesign-approved materials. bluesign-approved materials use only safe chemicals and reduce the impact on both humans and the planet during the manufacturing process.

Burton has a goal of 100% bluesign softgoods. Burton sees bluesign as the gold standard for ensuring that products are responsibly crafted in manufacturing processes that manage natural resources efficiently, produce cleaner air and water emissions, and use only those chemicals that are deemed safe for people and the planet. In Winter 21/22, 100% of Burton outerwear and apparel, 93% of first layers, and 98% of backpacks are bluesign products. Burton is proud that 80% of materials are bluesign approved – one of the highest percentages in the world.
