With the warmer weather rolling in, we are excited to get outside – but wearing what, exactly? Tops and bottoms are simple enough, and like everyone, we’re looking for shoes – spring sneakers, to be exact. In fact, we want our kicks to be on-trend, comfy and durable. And maybe a bit of running-centric versatility, in case we want to sweat off that backyard barbecue.
Faced with all these choices and criteria, we thought better to enlist some real style pros for tips. So who better than two Altitude Sports Buyers for advice on what they’re wearing this spring and summer? We asked Sigrid and Theodora to choose their top three spring sneakers, explain why they chose them, and touch on trends and styles you should be looking out for too.
Spring Sneakers for 2021
Sigrid's Spring Sneaker picks
Sigrid is a Buyer at Altitude Sports, a runner, a secret sneakerhead and a style inspiration for us all.
After the bulky ''dad shoes'' phase ruling streetwear for the past two years, it's the turn of the running shoe industry to take the lead. One of the flagship models would definitely be the S/Lab collection by Salomon, and more specifically the XT-6 FT Trail runners. The comfort is almost too perfect, and they can be used for sports as well as a fashion statement, due to their minimalistic timeless style.
An award winning running shoe that is light (2o4g) drops just in time for spring and the melting snow! If you’re a road runner like me, you’re constantly looking to beat your personal best. This is the shoe that will get you there. The 5mm heel drop, incredible cushioning and support allow you to run effortlessly. This doesn't look like your typical running shoe either, as it has a nice sleek look to it!
These Vejas remind me a bit of the 3-strap Stan Smiths that were really popular five years ago. This is an all-generation model that I’ll never get tired of, as they can be worn with anything. Bonus - it’s sustainable, and the materials used are always ethically sourced, which makes Veja a brand hard to not love. A vintage look that never loses its spark!
Theodora's spring sneaker picks
Theodora is a Buyer at Altitude Sports. She wants to get out and run more, but sometimes has to settle for looking the part in sneakers that work.
This super-cool Japanese sneaker is bold in colour and design. It's a perfect fit for the streetwear connoisseur to roll up her or his pants with, or wear with shorts in the summer. With forefoot and rear heel Gel cushioning mixing with Flytefoam tech, walk around in comfort every time you put them on!
CLAE has been around for the past 20 years and is consistently making durable, casual shoes that make an understated statement. These Bradley Cactus sneakers are an example of their timeless style, incorporating organic materials without compromising on comfort.
Skate shoe? High top? Yes and yes - expecially when we're talking Vans Sk8 Hi's. Skate shoes are never out of style, and Vans has an array of striking patterns that fit the streets. Even after all these years, they still maintain a street-savvy swagger that this generation absolutely loves.
We couldn’t help but notice one style that really caught our eye – we saved it for last.
An 80’s-inspired tennis club classic that never tires. Clean lines, colourways and comfort. The low-profile is most definitely in this summer - but then again, with sneakers like these, you’ll always be on-trend year after year.
Well then, we’ve learned a few things, like lower-profile is coming back in, white is still the top choice in spring sneakers, and comfort trumps everything. It’s also nice to see both running shoes and shoes made with organic and/or sustainable materials make the lists.
Thanks to our guests Sigrid and Theodora for their tips and choices – we couldn’t have done it without you. We can’t wait to see you outdoors in one of our favourite spring sneakers above!
