Founded in 1958, the birth of Scott Sports happened when Sun Valley resident Ed Scott invented the first ever tapered aluminum ski pole. This invention revolutionized the ski pole itself, replacing the standard steel or bamboo poles of the time. All in all, this invention was no surprise thanks to Ed’s engineering background and passion for skiing.
Ed Scott’s vision of innovation and his revolutionary ski poles helped position Scott among the ski industry’s leaders in producing technical products. From there, the brand’s sports expertise blossomed. Next on the agenda was to tackle the two-wheeled sports market.
The SCOTT Story
In 1970, Scott entered the motocross market with the brands first ever moto-specific goggles, later followed by motocross boots, grips, and accessories. More than ten years later, they introduced the cycling industry’s first ever aerodynamic handlebar named the ‘Aero bar,’ shaped by Charly French. Scott shared this spotlight moment with American cyclist Greg Lemond after he won the Tour de France in 1989 riding with it. A few years later, the company entered the mountain bike industry with its production of the Unishock bike suspension system.
With these innovations, Scott’s popularity within the bike industry multiplied. Not long after this, their Endorphin carbon mountain bike frame became a legend after multiple victories on the World Cup circuit and at the Olympics. In 1997, Scott introduced their first line of technical winter sports apparel, and one year later, the brand began manufacturing skis.
Year after year, Scott continued to push innovation in every outdoors industry they associated themselves with.
