Underwhelmed but Good
I own several Filson bags, namely the twill and tin fabrics, and love them (though wish they had built in pockets). I live on the West Coast of Canada where it is wonderfully wet and work in the marine industry. I was seeking some reliable weather resistant bags for use during personal and work-related travel and exploration. I have this tote, the duffel and backpack. They are very lightweight, and I am happy to report that they have internal pockets. Specifically, this tote has an internal laptop sleeve, one large zippered mesh pocket that runs the length of the sleeve, two open top slip pockets on the wall of the front of the bag (inside the main cavity). There is one external open, slip pocket under the word Filson, which is nice to stash a phone or other quick grab items. The pocket is designed to have a holding cavity vs a flat/slim card/phone pocket. Due to the design, the pocket gapes a little and anything in here would get wet when water slides down the walls of the bag and into the open slit. The bag is larger than I was expecting (pro) and holds a lot. A couple of cons - for the length of my forearm, I wish the strap was a titch longer so when I throw the bag onto my shoulder single handed, my elbow won't get caught. Right now, I push the top of the bag down to flatten it out to ensure a smooth hitch onto the shoulder. The straps are approx the width of a seatbelt (much thinner though), with the shoulder rest area being reduced to half the width. I wish the thinning of the strap was thinner for longer as I find the strap rolls and bunches in the crook of my armpit when resting the bag behind my elbow/triceps. I am going to get the straps tailored so the shoulder width continues to the top of the bag and then flare out to match the aesthetic. Overall I'm happy with the tote and you can't go wrong with Filson.
