Had Higher Hopes
My husband found this fairly bulky, but perhaps that is to support the comfort. Adjusting the torso length wasn’t as seamless as other Gregory packs. Ultimately went with an Osprey

This pack isn't field tested but I'm happy with it so far. Preliminary weight tests look positive. The pack fields foreign but is comfortable and distributes the weight well. Looking forward to using this soon.
This is my first Gregory pack, and it's love at first haul. I purchased the Black Volcano 65L, and it looks and feels great with perfect dialed in fit. The Katmai is super comfortable, lots of useful pockets and easy storage access. The extra pocket sleeve on the lid is a great touch. Bottle cage placement perfect for drinking on the go. For those missing a rain cover, just line the Katmai inside with a large plastic garbage bag and you're good to go, gear will remain dry as a desert. (Never understood people's obsession with pack rain covers). Perhaps best of all, the Katmai employs post-consumer recycled materials in all the fabric and PFC-free water repellency for the coating. Kudos to Gregory for caring, and to Altitude Sports for carrying this superb eco-friendly pack!
Les plus: -Dos en filet pour une bonne aération -Léger pour la taille -Très confortable -Beaucoup d'accessoires Le moins: -Pas de couverture de pluie
I bought this pack as I was looking for something that would be great for a couple overnighters during the winter as well as a perfect multi day pack for the summer months. I wanted something light and very durable. I tried the Baltoro and didn’t like how dinky the hip pockets are. They are way, way too small to put anything in. I can’t even fit my iPhone in the side pockets. The Katmai is the perfect pack. I great balance of features, durability, lightness and quality. The perfect pack!
I got this backpack for my 16 years old son for our backpacking camping trip. He loves it. It is light for a 65 lbs backpack. It is well built and sturdy. He loves all the pocket and organisation that it provides him. There is many way to access the content inside the bag. Some of my pet peeve with this bag is that at this price it doesn’t come with a rain cover and the hydration bag that is suppose to double as a day bag is an extra that you need to purchase after. Some other good bag comes with these two feature for a lower price or a comparable one.
