    Light and Comfortable

My partner is now a huge fan of Hoka's like me. I gifted him a pair for our mixed softball league and he is wearing them all the time. Another Hoka fan in the making :)

wide + waterproof = win (with caveats)

I've found it difficult to find waterproof trainers in wide fit. New Balance in 2E fit me well but the Hierro GTX are too spendy. These Hokas were the right price, especially with a discount. Unfortunately the fit isn't ideal. The midfoot is wide enough but the toebox tapers too aggressively causing my right big toe to rub slightly. It doesn't make the shoe unwearable, but I've decided that for my next purchase I will consider the "foot-shaped" options (i. e. , Altra, Topo Athletic) and not even consider Hokas (unless they do foot-shaped shoes too). The upper is stiffer than I would like and hope that it will break in eventually. The midsole is nice and plush, with good energy return. I haven't worn these in stormy weather so can't comment on the waterproofness, yet.

Wide + waterproof = win (with caveats)

I've had some challenges finding waterproof trainers wide enough for my weird feet. New Balance in 2E fit me well, but the Hierro GTX I was eyeing are just too spendy. These Hokas were the right price, especially with a discount. Unfortunately the fit on these Challenger GTXs are less than ideal. While the mid-foot is sufficiently wide, the toe box tapers too aggresively, and I find that on my right foot, my big toe is rubbing the forefoot slightly. It's not too bad, but it's there, and it has made me decide that for my next purchase, I will go with one of those "foot-shaped" shoes (i. e. , Altra or Topo Athletic). I haven't been in stormy weather, so I can't comment on the waterproofness (yet). The midsole is nice and soft, but not too squishy and actually feels like it adds some spring to my step. The uppers are more stiff than what I would like. I hope it breaks in eventually.

    Lovely shoes but fit small.

These shoes are very plush, with great traction. They fit small, and one needs to order 1/2 size larger.
