The R1 is an excellent piece for high-output activities like hiking. It offers amazing breathability, keeps you comfortable on steep climbs, and works perfectly as a midlayer when temperatures drop. A solid addition to any hiking kit! Took this over the weekend hiking one of Canmore's tougher peaks and it performed as advertised.
I bought this for a holiday in Scotland between mid-September, so between summer and fall. This fleece is especially great as part of a layering system. Ended up wearing it all the time. If things got chilly, I'd pop on my windbreaker and the fleece would warm me right up. If it was too hot, I could adjust a number of ways by unzipping the windbreaker, unziping the fleece, or removing the windbreaker.

Love this sweater. It is warm, feels highly breathable, and is high quality. Will work great as a mid-layer with a wind-breaking layer on the outside.
This is my latest Patagonia purchase and the R1 fits nicely. Patagonia is one of the few brands who carry XS that fits me well being a smaller guy (5'3", 110 lbs). So far happy with their products.
Excellent quality, very warm and breathable. Being stylish too doesn't hurt
I use it in treekking when I came to the camp place. IN cool weather,i take on the jacket,and sleep in my sleeping bags. When you treeking ,the jacket can pack a small bag.
Great fleece, lightweight, breathable, comfortable wearing both for outdoor and everyday activities. Weird sizing though, medium is tight and large is too loose on the waist.
