Mackinaw Wool, the finest example of nature's original performance fabric.
Made at Filson, Seattle. This special release revives a Mackinaw Wool Cruiser from Filson’s archive. The fit, bevel-cut pockets, and enameled snaps are based on a 1948 jacket. The Mackinaw Wool Cruiser was patented in 1914 for men working long days surveying timber stands in Pacific Northwest forests. Built from dense Mackinaw Wool, it blocks wind, sheds snow, and stays warm even when wet. The Cruiser has been a trusted favorite for over a century because the design just plain works. As it has evolved, changes have been subtle. Each of the four front cargo pockets are individually cut and sewn, with beveled corners. Those on the left side are oversized and vertically offset. This unique configuration was purpose-built for carrying tools and notepads varying in size. Smaller utility pockets are overlayed, originally designed for carrying a compass, pens, tools, or a pipe. Like the original, the snap-flap cargo pockets are single-entry from the top. The full-width, reach-through back pocket was designed for survey maps and charts, and just as useful today for gloves or other bulky items.
