The filter is the same as the trail base, which is what I ordered it for. The issue is that there seemed to be no replacement for the screen hat is part of the hose you put in the dirty water, when you use the trailshot portion of the trail base system. In other words, the trailshot by itself must have a different hose end than the trailbase system. I didn't know that.
Great to replace the cartridge without having the replace my entire system.
Works great but definitely doesn't last 1000+ litres. As others mentioned, clogs up and flow slows after a couple hundred litres, hence 4 stars.
Nothing wrong with this kit, it has everything needed to maintain the trail shot. Like with most kits, you may not need to use every piece, but it certainly is nice to have the option - and probably a good idea to replace them at some point anyway. I also like that I don’t have to buy a new trail shot altogether, because MSR provides the option to buy this kit. Good stuff.
good for about 150 llitres before becoming painfully slow in gravity-feed configuration. We were in Killarney backcountry, using only clean water sources. I will say, for the one day that we were on Georgian Bay (McGregor bay) where the water was much more briney, flow degraded much more quickly. Unit is not really field-serviceable.
