  Six days in Algonquin

  Just did 6 days backwoods in Algonquin with this filter and was really satisfied with it. Water was fresh and clear and tasted good. The 3L bag was a good size to have in camp. The flow rate might be slightly slower than I expected but, not so much that it really impacted anything. Very compact for storage/travel especially when you take the screw on lid adapter off.

  3L sweetspot size?

  This is a great water filter. It functions perfectly and easily. Just remember to soak the filter first before first use, otherwise the flow is too slow! The integrity test is easy to do and helps with peace of mind on your trip. I used it several times even in water that had some sediment I couldn't avoid and it worked like magic. Backflushing is critical to remove sediment and to help keep the water flowing as fast as possible. The instruction manual is incredibly clear and well written and I felt very confident I was doing the right thing by following it. I'm glad I brought it with me the first time I used it because I needed to review it then. I debated for awhile on which size to purchase and in retrospect, I probably should have gone with the 4L instead because it comes with its own clean reservoir. This ended up being something I feel is missing and now I plan to go out and buy a separate reservoir anyway. Also, the 3L has multiple options to attach to different end containers (ie Nalgene, regular screw cap, hose) but I wonder if it's not just easier to have one option. The Nalgene attachment is kind of interesting, but I just used the hose attachment instead because it was actually difficult to snap it on and off. I tried this attachment just to try it and because I had already brought it along. Next time I think I'll just leave it at home and save a bit of space. In retrospect, the 4L would be better because you already have a clean reservoir and don't have to worry about all the attachments.

  Good but handle broke before use

  The reservoir and hose system seems good for setting up a water system at camp. Have yet to use it, but one of the reservoir handles broke while rinsing it ahead of actually using for a trip. Could be a low probability failure, though good to keep in mind.

  Great for family camping

  This size will do well with filling up the bottles when family camping. I love the fact that is fits the Hydroflask wide mouth bottles.

  Platypus filter bag

  Very pleased with kit though not yet used. As it happens, I have a separate platypus hydration pack and this clips right in to make a two-bag system- very pleased that I got the single one (originally to connect to my Nalgene bottles! The kit has a number of interfaces including to a disposable water bottle. Just to note that the instruction to take off the bottle lid interface could be clearer- you just use your hand to pull it off with force.

  Lightweight & Compact

  Only used a few times but worked great! Can’t wait to use this on a long canoe trip!
