  When you are looking for comfort

  I have owned my previous thermarest since 2001 and it is still good. While i used it for several weeks a year at first it is now less often partly because i crave more comfort. This purchase was the answer. But it is an old technology, bulkier and heavier than newer options. I since changed my mind and decided to go for the lighter and smaller but still as confortable Neo Air Xtherm. I now wonder if I should have kept the Trail Pro. That old technology lasted for 22 years of camping trips and will still be used by my kids. Also, is the Neo Air that much lighter and compact if you add a battery pump and a (nearly impossible to find in Canada) lighweight Evazote 1/8 inch pad to protect this costly investment against punctures ? Is it worth it to double the cost ? I'll let you make your own calculations based on personal preferences.

  Luxury slumber under the stars.

  Backcountry camping elevated! I absolutely love my trail pro and am happy to pack this slightly bulkier sleeping pad for all the benefits and comfort it provides. As a side sleeper (and in the 50+ age bracket) my hips and back have suffered on previous sleeping pads, but this is a game changer. It keeps my hips off the ground, well support and insulated on cold nights. My partner borrowed it for a winter expedition and loved it so much we bought one for him too. The top fabric is soft and the pad is quiet unlike some of the ultralight sleep pads. It is a little bit of luxury that is still lightweight and easily portable on wilderness adventures.

  Great Mattress

  Overall, I am very happy with the Trail Pro Sleeping Pad. It is the most comfortable of the mattresses that I compared. It doesn't make much of any noise when moving at night - which is a great thing when camping with others. I'd agreed with other reviews that it is a bit on the larger and heavier side if you are taking it into the interior. However, sometimes a good night sleep is worth it!

  Cozy and quiet.

  After 25 years of use, one of our original Thermarests got damaged so we needed to find a replacement. We do canoe trips of up to 10 days and at the end of a long day of paddling and portaging, a good sleep is pretty important. We tried out three sleeping pads on our search for something just as comfortable as what we have now that also had an R value close to 4 for near-zero nights. We wanted something just as comfortable and warm and we were hoping for something that packs up a bit smaller. Of the three pads we tried, two were air pads - the Topo Neo and Topo Luxe. Both packed up very small and were very light but the Topo Neo was so noisy and not cozy at all. The Topo Luxe was a little less noisy and had a nicer surface but neither was as comfortable as the Trail Lite. The air pads are essentially air mattresses with material that helps keep you warm (that’s what makes the crinkly noise) so they don’t support in the same way as a self-inflating pad that has a bit of foam inside. This pad, the Trail Lite, has some hefty foam inside of it and a soft outside which makes it more comfortable. It is also self-inflating, so much easier to inflate than the “air pad” style of sleeping pads and it doesn’t make any noise at all. We opted for the regular length but the wide version as the regular width versions were just too narrow for us. In the long run, this pad probably doesn’t take up much less space in our packs than the original Thermarest from 25 years ago but I have slept on it once already and it is very comfortable.

  Comfortable sleeping

  This sleeping pad is very easy to inflate/deflate and it is extremely comfort! We can adjust the degree of stiffness with the amount of air inside (firm or soft). The first time required more effort to inflate, but then the self-inflating became very useful. It is not noisy and the regular wide size gives me plenty of space to sleep and turn without touching the floor. It is easy to pack and not heavy to carry. I am very happy with this purchase!

  Great pad

  Thermarest is a great camping product. This pad is thick , warm, inflates and breaks down quickly and is light enough for backpacking. Highly recommend this pad especially for side sleepers

  Amazing pad for people who are willing to take on the extra weight/volume

  This is a very nice hybrid pad. For people that find the air pads to be less comfortable, noisy, and bouncy this is your pad. If you can manage the additional volume which is essentially a jumbo roll of paper towels vs comparable warmth air pads which are about 1/3-1/2 the weight and volume then this is it. Moving around on the pad is nearly silent and the face fabric is actually nice next to skin as opposed to basically all air only pads. For canoe and car camping it's a no brainer, for backpacking you just need to factor in the extra weight and volume and decide if its worth it. It is “self inflating, but we all know that’s not completely true, you will need to inflate it. A pump sack would be nice as the air in your lungs is always warmer than the air around you and the pad may deflate slightly in the night as a result. It's just a pressure change as a result of the colder temperature. A pump sack helps reduce this a bit but is not included. If you are a side sleeper, this will work but all these 2.5/3” pads are challenging and thicker pads provide a lot of forgiveness for people who do not like firm pads.
