It’s a very nice jacket. I like it a lot. I didn’t know which one I should get, a classic Bedale or a classic Beaufort. I ended up buying both. It’s true to size. I sized down at first, but returned that and got them in my normal size. Beware of the colour transfer though. Don’t wear the jacket if you have an expensive bag.

Absolutely outstanding jacket, and the classic olive color is perfect. The relaxed fit gives me plenty of room to comfortably layer a thick sweater underneath.
Great wax jacket, made in england and will last a lifetime
Generally speaking I am a mens size small. In this case I went with a size 34 and it fits perfect, for more that tailored looked. With still enough room to wear a hoodie or heavy sweater underneath if needed. It's quite warm considering its not insulated. The Sylkoil does a great job in the wind, and rain. It's been perfect for these cool spring days.

This is one of the few remaining “Made in England” models as they seem to be transitioning all production away from the UK (Beaufort Sage for example). Something to keep in mind if you’re considering a Barbour. The olive colour is actually a beautifully dark, earthy brown. The corduroy collar adds to the traditional sophistication. The Sylkoil finish, only available on the Classic version, gives the coat a softer feel than the other colours with the Thornproof finish. As a result, it gives up a bit of the water repellency but offers better windproof. Treat the rest of what I say as more of being informative rather than criticism. It’s an expensive jacket so you should know what you’re getting. At 5’10 and around 180lbs, I went with a size 40. I wear 40R suit jackets and this is quite close. There’s enough room to layer. If you're looking for a modern, tailored fit, skip this and check out the Barbour Ashby. You’ll see online comments saying the Bedale has a “boxy” fit. To me, a boxy fit means from the front and the side the profile is straight down, no taper. The Bedale is more of a tent fit from a side profile, meaning the bottom look like it flairs out at the bottom. The only way to fill out the bottom half is if your waist measurement is closer to your chest measurement. For additional reference, I have a Bedale in size 38. I can only wear a single light layer like a dress shirt or a tee to maintain mobility around the chest and shoulder. It’s also the only way to keep the sleeves from riding up. If you look up the measurements across all the sizes, you’ll see the 38 and 40 have the biggest difference for some reason. The lining is 100% cotton throughout except for the bottom section which is polyester because this is a horse riding coat and the polyester is to repel water. The tartan is beautiful and a reason for its popularity. The sleeves have a rib cuff that keeps the cold out but not ideal for people who wear watches or a chunky sweater. I do like the look of the cuff but it’s also not ideal in very rainy conditions. A key thing to note is this is made from 6 oz waxed cotton. The lining is also on the thin side. This means it’s not the most durable work wear. Maintaining the wax (ie. rewaxing) will be important not only for water repellency but also to reduce the chance of tears. At the end of the day, buying this is more about buying English tradition and history. It’s a classic style designed to be functional yet stylish.
