About us

Our mission is to equip you with the most durable, well-designed goods through an unequaled online experience.

Our vision is to become the biggest little shop.

What We Believe In

  • Form that functions

The primacy of functional design, for us, means everything needs to serve a purpose. That functional precision also dictates the products we carry and drives us to provide the easiest shopping experience ever.

  • Aesthetic vision

We showcase the highest aesthetic standards and strive to make all our products sing by carefully curating collections, designing refined experiences, and creating relevant, enriching content. We believe that aesthetics can make us happier.

  • Human touch

Making every step of your shopping journey as personal as possible, and offering best-in-class advice about premium gear and technical apparel, can make it feel like you've arrived at the biggest little shop online, whether you're new to the outdoors or a hardcore adventurer.

  • Responsible living

Living harmoniously with nature, promoting equality, and championing diversity are cornerstones for us. By featuring brands that share these values, working with people who embody them, striving to lower our environmental footprint, and educating our customers, we can change things for the better - together.

Our story

Altitude Sports was born when the love of the outdoors collided with Montreal’s style. From a single shop on Saint-Denis Street, it has grown into a haven for everyone who values comfort and looking good, no matter where they’re going. We believe in a few simple things that have taken us a long way: Quality does matter, and the best things are built to last. And whether you’re hiking the Himalayas or heading home from work, you’ll enjoy yourself more in gear and tech that’s impeccably designed.

  • 1984

The first Altitude Sports store opens on St-Denis Street in Montreal, known at that time as Altitude Sports Plein Air, aiming to promote the outdoors by selling and renting quality outdoor apparel and equipment.

  • 1999

The online store launches, the first online outdoor retailer in Canada. Ecommerce had barely taken off at this stage, and the website became well-known as people searched for extremely specific products, often difficult to find in traditional brick-and-mortar stores. Altitude Sports starts offering special request orders - the first store to do so - which explodes in popularity.

  • 2008

A new version of Altitude-sports.com launches, with three staff members running and developing the site out of the back of the St-Denis store. The new website outsells the brick-and-mortar store one year after launching.

  • 2010

Altitude-sports.com launches a partner site called TheLastHunt.com. As the first and most important online outdoor discount store of its kind in Canada, it promises the best year-round prices on the biggest outdoor brands.

  • 2011

Employees Alexandre Guimond and Maxime Dubois buy Altitude Sports, become majority owners. Altitude Sports begins introducing renowned urbanwear brands.

  • 2012

We launch the "Don't Dump that Downie" pilot project, collecting jackets in wearable condition to donate to the Old Brewery Mission.

  • 2014

A new visual identity launches as the logo is redesigned to centre around the individual, allowing our focus to extend further than the outdoors. Comfort is put at the forefront, whether in the city or out in nature.

  • 2017

We launch Alti Action to support causes aligned with our beliefs of supporting nature, promoting equality, and championing diversity. To date, Alti Action has collected over $500,000 for organisations that embody these values.

  • 2018

Altitude Sports begins writing Brand Stories, inspiring articles that offer a behind-the-scenes peek at our partner brands. These stories are brought to life by our writers and photographers, who travel to remote areas around the world, bringing the secrets behind the most innovative apparel and gear to our customers.

  • 2019

We launch our Marketplace and connect our regular site to the inventory of partner brands, offering our customers enhanced options for sizes, colours, and more, to complement their shopping experience. This is the natural evolution of the special order service from our St-Denis days. We also receive new investment from BDC Capital to support our growth.

  • 2020

We move to a larger, state-of-the art warehouse and launch our Same-Day/Next-Day Delivery options.

  • Today

Today, we've expanded our offering into skis and snowboards, and are proud to have grown into a Canadian ecommerce leader, all the while working and playing at the intersection of fashion and the outdoors.

Our team

We are a business with the outdoors at its core. From the beginning, our employees have been gear junkies and thrill seekers. We’ve grown into a place that combines people with different tastes, trends and talents, from fashion followers to tech savants to outdoor lovers. The people at Alti share a camaraderie and a connection to our original friendly, open-minded, outdoor DNA. Work well done and success takes sweat equity, and are celebrated - but maintaining a healthy work-life balance is just as important.
