About us

Our mission is to equip you with the most durable, well-designed goods through an unequaled online experience.

What We Believe In

  • Form that functions

The primacy of functional design, for us, means everything needs to serve a purpose. That functional precision also dictates the products we carry and drives us to provide the easiest shopping experience ever.

  • Aesthetic vision

We showcase the highest aesthetic standards and strive to make all our products sing by carefully curating collections, designing refined experiences, and creating relevant, enriching content. We believe that aesthetics can make us happier.

  • Human touch

Making every step of your shopping journey as personal as possible, and offering best-in-class advice about premium gear and technical apparel, can make it feel like you've arrived at the biggest little shop online, whether you're new to the outdoors or a hardcore adventurer.

  • Responsible living

Living harmoniously with nature, promoting equality, and championing diversity are our cornerstones. Giving to non-profits with an outdoor view of the world is an always-growing habit. Featuring these brands, working with people who embody these values, striving to lower our environmental footprint, and educating customers - we can change things for the better, together. Since our foundation, we've made over $850,000 monetary and in-kind donations to organisations that help people in need, through mental health programs, homeless shelters, preserving and protecting the outdoors, or including youth and the BIPOC community in the outdoors.

Our first-ever Impact Report is now available. Learn about our holistic journey towards responsible business, celebrating our environmental and social achievements and future endeavours.

Our story

Altitude Sports was born when the love of the outdoors met Montreal’s flair. From a single storefront, it has grown into a haven for those who value comfort and style. Co-CEO's Alex Guimond and Max Dubois are more than just owners: they are longtime friends, passionate outdoorsmen and technical apparel afficionados. At heart, they're entrepreneurs, and in true entrepreneurial spirit, they built Altitude Sports by responding to and anticipating their growing clientele's needs and desires.

  • 1984

The first Altitude Sports store opens, known at the time as 'Altitude Sports Plein Air', created with the aim to promote the outdoors by selling and renting quality outdoor apparel and equipment.

  • 1999

The online store launches - the first online outdoor retailer in Canada in the nascent days of ecommerce. The website becomes well known to people looking for very specific products, often difficult to find in traditional brick-and-mortar stores. We were already carrying brands like The North Face, Arc'teryx, Salomon and Osprey, and offer special request orders - the first store to do so - which explode in popularity.

  • 2008

A new version of Altitude-sports.com launches, with three staff members running and developing the site out of the back of the store. The new website outsells the brick-and-mortar shop one year after launching. Many of the employees from back then are still working for the company today.

  • 2010

We launch a partner site, TheLastHunt.com, an online outdoor discount store and the first of its kind in Canada. The Last Hunt promises the best year-round prices on the biggest outdoor brands to deal hunters. This marked the start of donating $1 per order to the Wildlife Preservation Fund, beginning our long history of social giving that continues today.

  • 2011

Employees Alexandre Guimond and Maxime Dubois buy Altitude Sports, becoming majority owners. We begin carrying well-known urbanwear brands, with a strong push into both technical urban and outdoor brands to meet the needs of two intersecting clienteles, both of which sharing a common desire for comfort.

  • 2012

We start the "Don't Dump that Downie" pilot project, collecting jackets in wearable condition to donate to the Old Brewery Mission.

  • 2013

We introduce running with Saucony, followed by Mizuno and Brooks in 2015. We open the yoga category with renowned yoga brand Lolë.

  • 2014

A new visual identity launches as the logo is redesigned to centre around the individual, allowing our focus to extend further than the outdoors. Comfort is at the forefront, whether in the city or in nature. During the same year we open our cycling category.

  • 2016

We launch our first collaborations with well-regarded brands like Quartz Co., Arc'teryx, Nobis and Garneau. We help design and launch the first ever parka insulated with milkweed, a local, renewable, completely natural fibre, with Quartz Co.

  • 2017

Alti Action starts up, a charitable movement supporting causes aligned with our beliefs of supporting nature, promoting equality, and championing diversity. To date, Alti Action has collected over $530,000 for organisations that embody these values.

  • 2018

Altitude Sports begins writing Brand Stories, inspiring articles that offer a behind-the-scenes peek at our partner brands. These stories are brought to life by our writers and photographers, who travel to remote areas around the world, bringing the secrets behind the most innovative apparel and gear to our customers.

  • 2019

We launch our Marketplace and connect our regular site to the inventory of partner brands, offering our customers enhanced options for sizes, colours, and more, to complement their shopping experience. It's also in 2019 that we launch the Vallier brand, an independent project of Altitude Sports, that benefits from our vast expertise developed throughout the years.

  • 2020

We move to a larger, state-of-the-art warehouse and launch our Same-Day/Next-Day Delivery options. We accelerate the growth of the Training category in light of the increasing demand for at-home based workouts.

  • 2021

The much anticipated and popular Ski & Snowboard category appears on our site.

  • 2022

The Climbing category, with an ever-increasing popularity, appears on our site, along with a category that caters to our canine companions - the Dog Gear category.

  • 2023

We provide options of delivery across the Island of Montreal using either 100% electric vehicles or bicycles.
