BCA's new Float E2 avalanche airbags use the Alpride E2 supercapacitor system designed to store the energy that powers the compressor during airbag deployment. Supercapacitors store and release energy using electromechanical properties, rather than a chemical reaction as with rechargeable batteries. As a result, they are much more efficient in low-temperature conditions. For the same reason, the energy stored in supercapacitors is released more quickly when they are activated. The new E2 motor is 40% more compact and 25% lighter than its E1 predecessor, and comes with a 162-liter airbag.
